Round 2 of the Europeans - Mantova, Italy
May 2019
2nd place finish in race 1 at a very wet and deep Italian track. A storm had hit on the Friday and through the night leaving the conditions very difficult.
Unfortunately Todd was hit by another rider in race 2 but with no clutch and the top of his middle finger cut off, Todd amazingly finished the race and collected points! Todd was in quite a state as he crossed the line and was seen by the medical team immediately. The medical team were amazing they got him in for X-rays with in 10 minutes and addressed his finger at the track. There was a lot of discussions on whether Todd should have been taken to the local hospital for surgery straight away but Todd was adamant he wanted to ride the following week in Portugal and therefore the medical team cleaned the wound as much as possible and completed minor surgery at the track.
We got Todd back to the van and within half an hour, the blood loss and adrenaline of completing the race in massive amount of pain took its toll and knocked him for six. Todd was pretty wiped out for the best part of 48 hours, then a few sleepless nights made the week pretty difficult. However we stayed in the bottom of France until today, Thursday, this allowed us to assess Todd’s finger and see if we were are heading home or going to Portugal. Todd has decided he will be fine and wants to collect some points this seeking Italy.
